Salsambada Dance Studio is more than 15 years old and was the first, and still is the only, real South American Dance Studio in Canberra.
Meet some of our professional dance teachers and advanced students, specially trained to make sure you enjoy our dynamic classes each night:

Christophe
Christophe has been around on the dancing scene for over a decade. He first began with street dancing over ten years ago, and now specialises in Cuban Salsa. Probably the most popular local salsa teacher and performer.
With a history of DJ-ing and managing businesses, including nightclubs, Christophe still has a passion for music and dance and he believes anyone can be taught to dance provided they have the desire to learn
and to practice. While working as a DJ in his early years, he was inspired by a dance performance and asked the dancers to show him some moves. After seeing what he could (or rather couldn't) do, they told him he would never be able to dance. He was determined, and spent the rest of the evening practising, and now look where he is!
Christophe has a unique style and an exciting fresh
approach to his classes, creating a relaxed and humourous atmosphere.
During the time he is not dancing Christophe likes to keep himself busy. He has started a Psychology Degree, with an emphasis on improving communication and teaching skills. He works during the day, for Signature Surface www.signaturesurfacing.com.au, specialising in polymer floor application. His dedication and perfectionist nature is reflected in the high quality of his work.

Melissa
Christophe's better half, Melissa discovered dancing when she met her
future husband. Two hours later she was hooked (or had no choice), and her husband Christophe would like to claim his "exceptional" dancing skills as the reason for the dancer she has become today. However, as an accomplished musician, with experience in teaching, Melissa has long held a great love for music and an understanding of rhythm, which definately helps with that tough Salsa beat.
She has completed a Pyschology Degree and is now a full-time mother to a full-time ball of energy and budding dancer Samuel.
Overall some would say she is the woman behind that makes the man.

Samuel
Samuel is definately our youngest student at just over a year old, and has recently learnt the cuban turn and shoulder shimmy which he loves to show off. He often rocks his hips almost sub-consciously when he hears that addictive salsa beat while playing with his toys. When he manages to get out of his playpen, he loves to pass the time dodging the advanced class La Rueda, usually on wheels.
Many have said that he will be better at the hip wiggle than most by the time he starts school, and the school kids probably won't be the only ones learning a thing or two. It looks like teaching will come as naturally to him as dancing, so be on the lookout over the next few years for a mini-Christophe helping you with your moves!

Jonathan
Jonathan has courageously accepted the call to fill Christophe's shoes (a little worn) and you'll see him running through the warm up routines at the beginning of class and calmly sweeping the ladies off their feet, dipping them here there and everywhere.
He began dancing when housemate Ryan couldn't stop raving about Salsambada's classes and has recently discovered that its all true and now wants to be a part of the hip wiggling phenomenon.

Joe
If you were to look up Salsa freak in the encyclopedia, you would be sure to find a picture of Joe. Enough cannot be said about the influence of this one man on Salsa in Salsambada and that's why he carries the title "Mr Salsambada".
If you know anything about Salsa you would know Joe and in a lot of cases you would know a lot about Salsa because of Joe. He is Salsambada's social co-ordinator and has his own independant newsletter, "On The Beat", letting you know everything that is happening on the scene as well as ever interesting rumours that hit the grape vine!
He started dancing at the same time as Christophe and he has warned us that the next Salsa school to appear will be called, "Salsa King", so keep a look out!
We love you Joe and you will be forever remembered as one of the "Greats"!
